The straw is dyed to match the crepe exactly and worked into a corset with moulded cups, then set with crystals along the neckline. The skirt is gathered at the hip over a high slit and falls to a train. One colour, two materials.

Paja toquilla is the straw of the Ecuadorian coast, split from the young leaves of the toquilla palm and woven by hand in the towns around Montecristi. The same fibre has been worked there for generations into the finest hats in the world. GALAP sets it into cloth. Each panel is woven to the shape of the garment it will join, then cut and sewn in our New York atelier. No two weaves are identical; the variation is the signature of the hand.
