Paloma

A halter yoke of woven straw sits on the collarbone and opens into a keyhole, with a matching belt at the waist. Below it the camel crepe is cut close and falls to the floor. Two bands of straw, and nothing else.

Paja toquilla is the straw of the Ecuadorian coast, split from the young leaves of the toquilla palm and woven by hand in the towns around Montecristi. The same fibre has been worked there for generations into the finest hats in the world. GALAP sets it into cloth. Each panel is woven to the shape of the garment it will join, then cut and sewn in our New York atelier. No two weaves are identical; the variation is the signature of the hand.
